Ignisterra uses a vaporized process for its higher grades with the purpose of homogenizing wood`s colour, obtaining an attractive pink colour.
Our sawn Lenga wood is carefully chosen and artificially dried in a kiln drier (8% +- 2%).
Lenga is known in many countries as Fireland or Patagonian Cherry for its similar grain and colors with American Cherry. Its sapwood is white to yellowish and its heartwood is pale pink to dark in color. It is considered worldwide as a hardwoodthat has excellent features for the furniture craftsmanship, such as carving, gluing, profiling, staining and finishing. In short, it is perfect for designs aiming to honor nature and allowing to obtain excellent and fine wood products.
A Lenga tree is adapted to grow in places with poor soils, cold weather and strong winds, where no other species grows. It is the foremost pioneer and in many places is the first species to grow after volcanic eruptions. This makes it a strong tree, thus not making it an endangered species.
Each piece of lenga is unique. Being a native wood, it has the peculiarities of natural forests where each piece has colors and unique grains designed by nature, with the passing of time. This is an advantage over wood from plantations where all trees are generally clones with the same characteristics. In addition, it is an exclusive product, since there are forests of lenga only in the extreme south of Argentina and Chile, and their sustainable forestry management requires a controlled productive volume.
